Unity
A poem by Father Simon Foster, Trustee of the American Friends of the Anglican Centre in Rome and Rector of St John’s of Lattingtown Episcopal Church, Diocese of Long Island
If I’m frustrated
What must the Holy Spirit be?
We are still divided
We can’t share the one Host
How much longer
Can dogma and rules prevent us?
Whenever at a Church
Where some are excluded
“Not in communion”
It feels so wrong to me.
My sisters and brothers
Roman, Orthodox, Episcopalians
Anglicans, those in other churches
Faithfully celebrating the Eucharist
The Lord’s own service
As received by their tradition.
Yet all still can’t participate together
We know at core He presides
It is His
Can’t we just leave the out come
To His Eucharistic care?
Love is stronger than death, rules and ecclesiology
“Do this in remembrance of me”
It is enough isn’t it?
